WELD TRAINING

Welding
At the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 157 Weld Shop we keep in mind the changing technology as well as train for personal adaptability in the field.  We train our welders to become certified in all aspects of pipe welding.  This makes a worker more employable and a greater asset to our signatory contractors.

Once accepted into our program, an apprentice has options.  If welding is the the key interest, our weld shop is available for practice during normal business hours.  Other supplemental certification courses are also available when the demand is high enough.

Welding Class

Pipe welders are in high demand as production of industrial facilities and equipment continues to grow. Employment opportunities exist in power houses, refineries, manufacturing facilities and new commercial/industrial construction.  The Local 157 Training Center is committed to training and supplying our industry with the most highly skilled and qualified welders available.  We train in all aspects of welding (MIG, TIG, SMAW and Automatic).  Our instructors are hands-on and will guide apprentices to through each process.  Many hours in apprenticeship are devoted to welding, and apprentices are welcome to spend as much time as desired through attending extra classes or utilizing the weld shop when available.

Fabrication Class

Apprentices in our program learn about layout, design, construction and installation of piping fabrication.  In the classroom, the skills are developed to produce a drawing from which to fabricate piping.  In the shop, the skills are developed to cut, prep and weld piping to match the desired layout.  The layout wall (pictured left) is used for the installation portion of training.
